Heat Geek Product Guide

We believe in #nopanacea meaning that there is rarely one product that is right for every home and every situation. A product that performs brilliantly in one property can underperform in another. That does not make it a bad product. It makes choosing the right one important.

The heating industry has no shortage of product recommendations. Often, these are driven by commercial relationships, not evidence. At Heat Geek we test, analyse and challenge everything – including our own assumptions. Every product in this guide has a dedicated page with a full technical deep dive and one of our video investigations.

We do not recommend anything we have not put through proper scrutiny. Where a product is not right for a specific situation, we will tell you that too.

Vaillant aroTHERM plus

Air source heat pump

This is the primary heat pump we install. Proven across a wide range of UK property types, efficient at efficient flow temperatures and well supported. Our technical deep dive covers sizing, real-world performance data and installation specifics.

arotherm plus

Vaillant aroTHERM pro

Air source heat pump

The newer addition to the Vaillant range. Designed for installations where the pro specification makes a material difference. Our Gen-Up training includes a dedicated aroTHERM pro module covering everything you need to know. This review includes a technical video deep dive.

Vaillant Pro

Heat Geek Super Cylinder

Heat pump cylinder

Heat Geek designed cylinder, specifically for heat pump installations. Larger coil, optimised for low flow temperatures, built to work the way a heat pump actually works. The product page explains in full why coil size matters and what makes this different.

Mixergy

Smart hot water cylinder

Mixergy uses a top-down heating approach that means you get usable hot water faster and waste less energy heating water you do not need. Our research looked at real-world efficiency gains and the situations where Mixergy makes sense over a standard cylinder.

Sunamp

Thermal battery

Sunamp stores heat in a phase change material rather than water, giving significantly more storage capacity in a much smaller footprint. Not the right solution for every home. For space-constrained properties it is worth understanding properly, which is what our review covers.

Vaillant sensoCOMFORT

Heat pump controls

Controls are one of the most underrated parts of a heat pump installation. A well-controlled system running at low flow temperatures will significantly outperform a poorly controlled one. The sensoCOMFORT is the control system we use with Vaillant installations, and our guide explains why controls matter as much as the heat pump itself.

Heat Geek MiniStore

Ministore

The Heat Geek Ministore is a compact hot water solution for homes where a standard cylinder simply will not fit. It uses a shell and tube heat exchanger to store hot water in a fraction of the space. There are efficiency trade-offs versus a full-size cylinder, and we are honest about them but for the right property, it is the difference between a heat pump installation being possible or not

Why trust our product reviews?

Heat Geek was built on the principle that the heating industry needs more rigorous independent analysis and less sales-led advice. Here is what that looks like in practice.

We test, not just review

Every product in this guide has been through our technical process – real-world testing, data analysis and where relevant independent experiments. Not a manufacturer briefing.

We publish our reasoning

Each product page shows our working. If a product has limitations, we say so. If the right answer depends on variables in your home, we explain what those variables are.

No undisclosed relationships

We do not recommend products because of commercial arrangements. Where a commercial relationship exists, we say so. Our recommendations are driven by evidence, not invoices.

More products coming

The range of products we research and review is growing. As new products come through our technical process and meet our evidence-based standard, we add them here. If there is a product you would like us to look at, get in touch with us on social media.
