Viessmann Launches the Vitocal 200-A ie in the UK
Viessmann builds some of the best-engineered heating equipment in the world, at a price that has kept most of it out of reach for UK homeowners. The Vitocal 200-A ie is Viessmann's first heat pump built and priced for the UK market. More homeowners can now buy into that engineering without paying the premium price.
We visited Viessmann's HQ to see the Vitocal 200-A ie and talk to the engineers who built it.

What makes it a strong heat pump
A+++ efficiency, on radiators or underfloor heating
All four sizes carry an A+++ efficiency rating, on underfloor heating (W35) and on radiators (W55). It supplies flow temperatures up to 70°C at outdoor temperatures down to -10°C. The refrigerant is R290 (propane), the same natural refrigerant Vaillant uses across the aroTHERM range, with a GWP of 0.02.
One compact footprint, four sizes
The outdoor unit keeps the same footprint (530 mm deep, 1,140 mm wide) across all four sizes; only the height changes, from 809 mm on the Type 6 and Type 8 to 1,009 mm on the Type 10 and Type 12. Weight ranges from 93 kg to 118 kg. Installers can cascade up to four outdoor units off a single controller on larger properties. It also won the iF Design Award 2026 for its casing.
A full energy ecosystem, not just a heat pump
The ViCare app controls the Vitocal 200-A ie, on Viessmann's One Base Intelligence platform. That platform brings solar panels, battery storage and EV charging into the same system as the heat pump, and schedules them around dynamic electricity tariffs. ViCare smart radiator and underfloor thermostats add room-by-room control.
Warranty and servicing
Viessmann backs the Vitocal 200-A ie with a 5-year guarantee as standard. Keep it serviced regularly through Viessmann and that extends to 10 years, a real reason to stay on a service plan rather than let it lapse.
Where it falls short of the Vaillant aroTHERM pro
We install a lot of Vaillant aroTHERM pro and plus units. Their standout feature is Flexible Space Function: the outdoor fan runs continuously at low speed, so the safety exclusion zone around the unit shrinks down and opens up corners, side returns and tight gardens that a standard R290 heat pump can't use. There's no equivalent feature on the Vitocal 200-A ie. It follows the standard R290 exclusion zone rules, so it needs more clear space around the outdoor unit.
Most UK gardens have the space to spare. On a tight urban plot, that difference decides which heat pump fits. We wouldn't call the 200-A ie a straight replacement for the aroTHERM pro on every property.

Our view
We're glad this exists. #nopanacea means there's rarely one right answer for every home, and homeowners benefit from a genuine, well-engineered alternative at a more accessible price. Viessmann's build quality speaks for itself here: real engineering, brought down to a workable price.
