Geek Notes
You measure a renewable heating system's real efficiency with monitoring hardware like Open Energy Monitor's kit, tracking flow temperatures, energy used and heat delivered rather than relying on the manufacturer's rated figures. Real installation data tells you how a system, including solar thermal, performs in your own home, which often differs from lab conditions. That's the only way to know if your system is underperforming or working as designed.
We met up with Trystan from Open Energy Monitor who filled our gaff with a ton of their kit! (yes we paid for the kit)
This allows us to measure exactly how efficient our system is and make refinements moving forward.
We reveal our solar thermal kit, our heat pump and show where we're going with things longer term.
