Automatic balancing TRVs are pressure-independent control valves, and they do have real applications on certain systems. For most heat pump installations though, you don't need them: standard TRVs paired with proper commissioning and balancing achieve the same result for less money. Save automatic balancing valves for systems with tricky pressure differentials across zones.
Automatic balancing TRVs are essentially just pressured independent control valves. They most certainly have their uses, but that does not make them a panacea.
