This was an air source heat pump, underfloor heating, and top-up radiator installation during a refurbishment under the new 'Black Label' scheme. Because the scheme is new, there was a bit of toing and froing to sort out the precise details of how the job could be contacted; but HeatGeek were always polite, informative and helpful, and made everything work in the end. The missing star is only because of the teething problems with the scheme.

Good service. Only criticism is initial onle quote for heat pump was way under what it eventually cost me.

Very well organised & professional service from Heat Geek, from the initial heat pump consultation from their recommended local Heat Geek qualified installer, to the detailed central admin required to complete the job. The online system is very efficient at providing the quote and following up with the required documentation available quickly & easily. The online information videos enable you to absorb as much detail as you want, prior to making your decision on how to proceed.

Clear about the benefits of being with heatgeek. The online customer portal isn't particularly clear. Would be good to see a precise breakdown of where costs are going and further options beyond tank size. Advice on tank size would have been good. Overall a very trustworthy way of getting a heat pump installed

FAQs

What is the Boiler Upgrade Scheme?

A UK government grant that gives homeowners up to £7,500 (gas) or £9,000 (oil/LPG) off the cost of a heat pump installation. It's not a loan. There's nothing to repay.

Do I need to apply for the grant myself?

No. Heat Geek applies on your behalf as part of the installation process. You never touch the paperwork.

What does the installation cost after the grant?

Typical systems start from around £4,600 (replacing gas) or £3,100 (replacing oil/LPG) after the grant is applied.

What is the Heat Geek Guarantee?

We guarantee your system's performance in writing, monitor it digitally after installation, and fix it free if it underperforms.

How much do heat pumps cost in the UK in 2026?

In 2026, a typical air source heat pump installation in the UK costs between £3,000 and £20,000 after the Boiler Upgrade Scheme grant, which can be up to £9,000 if you’re on oil or LPG. Final costs depend on property size, insulation levels, emitter upgrades and system design quality. At Heat Geek our average install price is £3,000 (after the grant). That's the same as swapping out your gas boiler.

Because every home is different, the only way to get accurate numbers is through a properly modelled design. Heat Geek’s paid Design Consultation provides a full heat loss calculation, system specification and guaranteed performance estimate tailored to your property.

What if I live in Scotland?

BUS does not cover Scotland. Scottish homeowners should look at the Home Energy Scotland Grant and Loan Scheme, which offers grants of up to £7,500 plus an interest-free loan of up to £7,500. Heat Geek supports installs across Scotland.

How long will the £9,000 rate last?

The higher grant for oil and LPG properties is confirmed until March 2027. A standard timeline of survey, booking, and installation leaves plenty of time to qualify.

Does the grant apply to ground source heat pumps?

Yes. Both air source and ground source heat pumps qualify under BUS, subject to the same eligibility criteria.
