Most Level 3 heat pump courses produce engineers with a certificate and not much confidence. Installergy is a new NOCN-accredited qualification built by working Heat Geek installers, assessed on real installations in real homes. You can start the course free today at learn.heatgeek.com.
Installergy
If you've been in the heating industry long enough, you'll know the pattern. Engineer books a Level 3 heat pump course. Takes a week off work. Loses a week's worth of earnings. Sits through five days of someone reading word for word off a slide deck. Passes a multiple choice exam. Gets the certificate. Gets a branded pen and notebook for their trouble. Goes back to work and still won't touch a heat pump install.
That's not a skills problem. That's a training problem.
The data backs it up. A significant number of engineers who hold a Level 3 heat pump qualification still don't feel confident enough to install one. They're technically trained. But the courses aren't doing what they're supposed to do, and everyone in the industry knows it. Yet again we have let down our heating engineers. Certificates alone do not equal competence or confidence.
Heat Geek has always taken a different approach to help heating engineers with their transition into installing heat pumps. If an installer wants to join our Upgrades Platform and install heat pumps with us, we don't accept any Level 3 heat pump installer qualification as a prerequisite. You still have to pass our Awakening and Mastery online courses.
From there, the installer takes a virtual competency interview with an experienced Heat Geek. They are assessed not only on their knowledge and skills but on their behaviours too. If successful, they have the option to join our network and, through peer to peer learning, grow into a competent installer. Speaking day to day with more experienced people around them. Being assessed by these experts. Physically working with them on their first few jobs. This not only helps to build standards and quality but also builds a foundation for the peer to peer network.
So we wanted to challenge the norm and hopefully help change the standard of Level 3 courses across the board. Installergy is a new regulated Level 3 qualification, accredited by NOCN, designed from scratch to produce confident, competent heat pump engineers.
The content wasn't written by a training provider, an industry expert who hasn't held a pair of grips in ten years, or put together by a committee. A group of Heat Geek installers, people who are on site every week doing this work, sat down and built it themselves. Every module, every scenario, every decision point in the course reflects what you actually encounter on a real job.
Design, installation, commissioning. All of it covered in the depth it deserves. Not just the theory, but the engineering judgement that comes with experience, how to read a situation, make the right call, and know why you made it.
The course is fully digital. You work through it in your own time, around your jobs, without taking a week off or sitting in a room with 15 other people at different stages of their career.
When it comes to assessment, you're not standing in a training bay matching labels to components. You're assessed on real installations, in real homes, by a current Heat Geek installer who knows exactly what good work looks like and can give you feedback that's actually useful.
The course is open to everyone. You can start learning today and work through the full content without committing to the qualification.
If you do want the official NOCN Level 3 certificate, you'll need to join the Heat Geek Upgrades Platform first.
The theory side is a proctored online exam run by NOCN. For the practical assessment, you bring your own job. You work through the installation with peer to peer support at every stage, and when you're confident the work is ready, you submit it as your portfolio evidence. It's then assessed by an experienced Heat Geek installer, and if successful you will gain your official NOCN Level 3 heat pump design and installation qualification.
Our Upgrades Platform operates on a rolling subscription so you are never tied in. You can cancel at any time. If you want to get started, the course is live now at learn.heatgeek.com. If you want to go further and work towards the official qualification, join the Upgrades Platform and we will support you every step of the way.
